Work description
Changing lives through music
It's important to note that while you'll have the chance to travel to different parts of the world, the primary focus of this work is teaching music and empowering young people, so this post is not suitable for those simply seeking an opportunity to travel. As a music teacher with Keys of Change, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people around the world. This is not just a job, but an opportunity to empower, mentor, lead, and inspire young people who come from extremely harsh backgrounds. Through instrument lessons, music classes, rehearsals, and public performances, you will share hope, encouragement, and empowerment with your students, while also teaching them the transformative power of music. In addition to teaching music, you'll become a life coach and role model for your students, helping them to develop skills and beliefs that will serve them well beyond their musical education. As a teacher, you may also play a role in training future music teachers, providing invaluable opportunities for young people to develop professional and sustainable careers. Whether you're teaching in Ghana, Mexico, or another location, you'll have the opportunity to gain invaluable performing, teaching, and conducting experience, as well as organisational skills while creating and directing music camps. You'll also have an exceptional opportunity to learn about a different culture and broaden your horizons. Visit the "Our Work" section of our website for more information about our specific projects and locations.
Structure and reporting
As a music teacher with Keys of Change, you'll be part of an international community of musicians working together to make a difference in the world. We understand that teaching music in different locations around the world can be challenging, which is why we provide extensive support and resources to our teachers. We offer a structured program in which one or two professional musicians serve together for a six-month period, followed by an additional two musicians serving for the next six months. During this time, you'll work closely with Keys of Change and other organisations to develop the curriculum for each project, plan public performances, and ensure that progress is closely monitored. You'll have access to all the support you need, including materials, books, and instruments, which we'll provide to you. Your progress will be closely monitored by Keys of Change, and we'll work with you to make sure that you're meeting your goals and objectives. You'll be responsible for maintaining close contact with the Keys of Change staff through weekly Skype/Zoom meetings, providing updates on the progress and collaborating to adjust the overall goals that will lead to a public performance at the end of the term. We are committed to providing you with all the support you need to succeed as a music teacher with Keys of Change, and to ensuring that you have the best possible experience while making a difference in the lives of young people around the world.
Aims and objectives
The teaching programmes of Keys of Change around the world aim to provide opportunities for young people to discover their inner voice and build self-worth through music education. We believe that music has the power to transform lives, especially for young people who come from extraordinary circumstances. Around the world, our focus is on providing life-changing opportunities for young people who have experienced tragedy, trauma, extreme poverty, abandonment, abuse, including violence and/or drugs in their family environment. Our teaching programmes aim to create an experience for young people that culminates in live performances, which we believe to be the heart of the transformation process. Through these musical camps, we offer students the opportunity to learn new repertoire, receive guidance from guest teachers and performers, and ultimately share their musical talents with their community. The inclusive and supportive approach that we take towards teaching and performance is critical to the developmental process of our students. We believe that the public performance is a critical metric for assessing and planning future projects, and we are committed to documenting these experiences for future learnings.
